Why Your Business Needs Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing – it’s something we all know we should be doing but it can often seem daunting. But it’s not going away anytime soon. If anything, social media marketing has become the epicentre for most business marketing strategies – regardless of their size.

If you want to be where your customers are, the best thing you can do is get your business’ social media up to speed. However, if you’re still not convinced, here’s how social media can benefit your business.

What is Social Media Marketing?

Social Media Marketing is the process of sharing engaging, unique content on your social media platforms (such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn) to boost website traffic and brand awareness.

It’s been proven to increase web traffic by up to 44% and higher levels of traffic means your business is more likely to appear for a wider range of search terms. This makes you far more visible to potential new customers and more visibility means more conversions.

Why do we use Social Media Marketing?

Brand awareness – 63% of consumers who search for businesses online are more likely to use those with an informative social media presence. It’s is a great way of reassuring your customers that you are a trust-worthy brand whilst showcasing your products and services.

Connect – Social media is an excellent way to communicate directly with your existing and potential clients through comments and messaging. Remember, a potential customer may not feel committed enough to request a brochure or book an appointment but responding to one of their queries online may help to push them in the right direction.

Share – Use your social media channels to distribute information, company events and updates, services or knowledge to your connections within the community.

Will Social Media Improve your SEO?

Whilst Google does not necessarily reward you for levels of traffic, they DO reward you for the consistency of traffic. Social media is an excellent way of maintaining a steady level of traffic and encouraging return visits – even with seasonal trends. So if you break it down, sharing 3 pieces of content per week means you are x3 more likely to get seen by potential customers and clients.

At Brave Agency, we like to view social media as real estate – the more properties you own, the more surface area you cover. It is an additional outlet, alongside SEO and PPC, that gives your brand added exposure. So try to think of it less as a sales tool and more as an extension of your company.

Not Convinced That Social Media is for You?

10 years ago, there were less than 1 million active users on social media. Today, Facebook alone has over 1 billion active users, with 50% of those logging in on their mobile phones multiple times every day. So to put it plainly – social media is for everyone.

Despite the common misconception that social media is intended for the younger generations, a study by Jakob Nielson discovered that it is largely dominated by the 35 – 44 age groups. This age group makes up more than 25% of all social media users. Nielson also found the following…

  • 64% of Twitter’s users are aged 35 or older
  • 61% of Facebooks’ users are aged 35 or older
  • The average social network user is 37 years old
  • Linkedin has a predictably high average of users aged 44+

That said, whilst it’s important to focus on your current business demographics, in a few years time, the younger generations are going to fall within the same age bracket. That means you should always stay one step ahead of your audience.
