How Consistency keeps your SEO alive

John Mueller from Google was quoted that his number one piece of SEO advice is to be consistent. It is common knowledge that consistency can help in many ways, from GoogleBot crawling your site, to users being able to quickly know how to navigate your site.

So what are the basics of SEO then?

SEO stands for search engine optimisation, we all know that. Search engines look to give users the most relevant information and recommend the best user experience. They do this by “crawling” pages across the internet, rating the content on each page and that determines how many people find your website or landing page.

Considering that Google currently holds over 90% of the total search engine market share, ensuring that your content is optimised for search engines is in your best interest (if you want your page to be seen!). It’s also said that 93% of experiences begin with a search engine which just shows how important SEO really is.

Why is consistency so important?

Keeping your product and brand content updated on a consistent basis is important as it indicates to your audience what to expect from you and when to expect it. The more consistent you are in your profession and industry, the more you will be trusted and that takes a long time of being consistent to earn that trust. With Google, trust is everything.

The point is, consistent SEO content creation can help establish your brand as a credible place to find information online. If you didn’t already know, Google has a “Freshness Algorithm” which means that staying consistent with your posts is crucial to moving up on the chain in the SEO world. By introducing this algorithm it forces writers to be consistent with posting, as well as making sure that their information is useful.

Tips on how to stay consistent:

1. Have a schedule

Whether you’re posting once a week or every day, having a schedule is crucial. Sometimes things don’t always go according to plan and life can get in the way of sharing your posts so having a scheduled post ensures that content is being released whether you’re there or not.

2. Stay updated on current posts in your industry

Keeping on top of what experts and influencers are saying in your industry is crucial to increasing your SEO. By doing this, it not only gives you an idea of what topics have been bled dry but it also helps you write content that is RELEVANT at that time. Staying in the loop challenges you to think about what your business could be doing to help pain points that you may not have thought about before! There’s also the fact your potential prospects will want to know you are ahead of the curve and have the latest news and viewpoints in hand.

3. Linking your social media

If you have any social media accounts for your business…UTILISE THEM. Social media is a great way to enhance SEO due to the additional engagement it brings. Having your blog linked through social media is also great for creating a new line of communication between you and the user. Once you link your blogs to your social pages then you’ll soon see a boom in engagement after sharing content. Keeping your message consistent draws the viewer in and reinforces credibility and you’ll find it much easier to share your message when there are a number of platforms to do it on.

On a final note, when it comes to keywords, in particular, sticking consistency with them is also vital rather than a scattergun approach. Strategise your keywords at the very start, challenge them and why you have chosen them, and then stick to them if you’re confident they are the converting keywords you want to be found for.

Updating your website monthly, weekly, or even daily is fine, but what you need is consistency. Consider updating your site yearly and critiquing the content strategy again as this will ensure you are relevant and in tune with current trends.

Remember, don’t just make sure you’re consistent with your website content updates or regularity, but make sure you are consistent with the actual quality of the content. We can all write basic content but for high-quality content, it must be well researched, planned, and strategically written for it to be effective.
