The Brief

The brief was to create a best-in-industry website, one which was modern, cutting edge and ultimately help the client grow nationwide awareness of Ultimate Kitchens as a supplier of quality kitchens and joinery to the trade but also to ensure that any of the trade’s customers visiting the site could get the inspiration and confidence that was needed to support the sales process.

To ensure that the site design really represented the company’s family values and 100 years of experience, we worked very closely with their key stakeholders and team to develop the look and feel. The result needed to deliver a timeless look and feel and one which would complement the many different kitchen style photography so as to not detract away from everyone’s individual taste and show each product range without obstructive elements from the interface design.

Fully Bespoke WordPress

Picking WordPress as the CMS of choice for us was a no-brainer especially since the client needed us to code and develop custom tools and solutions which relied on a variety of range, colours and styling catalogue features. A big focus of customising WordPress to work around the client’s need was paramount; Improving the user experience by making it visually intuitive and easy to navigate is another important design trait that WordPress lends itself to so well whilst giving the client enough control but not too much so that the layouts ever get out of shape with a non-designer managing the content once handed over.

“Clean code and thoughtful design” was one of the first phrases at the discovery stage and WordPress would be perfect for them to allow us to focus on building the CMS around their management and content needs.

Bridging UI and UX Design

It is really important to distinguish UX from UI as they both have corresponding responsibilities but essentially for us, our team must have experience in the core four fundamentals; 1. User Research, 2. Information Architecture, 3. Wireframe, 4. Interaction Design (Prototype).

At Brave we mostly work in pairs: a designer and a developer apart from when a client such as Ultimate Kitchens has a rather special set of requirements in terms of how they want their website visitors to be enriched by their product range. In fact, this vast project had a tight schedule, so we worked as a bigger UX team: 2 designers a CRO Marketer and two developers, one for front-end and one for backend and plugin development.

What We Delivered

As always, we welcome a challenge with any online platform, as we needed to craft a clean yet functional site, support a vast array of content and ensure clarity in terms of a user’s experience was at the forefront.

We created a strong UX that enabled simple content navigation, across many sections and range styles and allowed users to browse through beautiful large screen imagery. We strategically split content across multiple sections to allow for digestible content consumption, fast navigation and calls to action to encourage bookings and contact form interaction.

A website is never truly “finished.”

It was a pleasure to work with Ultimate Kitchens on creating this brand new website from scratch.
