The Bell Inn, historically an important stop on the Great North Road near Peterborough between London and York, it’s one of the finest examples of a 17th century Coach House. Famous as the birthplace of Stilton Cheese, this popular inn sits at the heart of the village and history says that Dick Turpin, the famous 18th century highwayman, is even said to have lodged at The Bell Inn.
The Bell Inn approached Brave to help them create a dedicated website to showcase their amazing hotel and restaurant whilst highlighting their years of history and display the Hotel in the light it deserves.

Sticking to The Bell Inn brand guidelines, we designed a comprehensive but simple website interface which enabled the images to do most of the talking. It was important to design the layout of the site in a way which gave a strong nod and acknowledgement to the heritage whilst realising that customers would be using technology to research and make a booking
Our build approach was completely flexible and adaptive in order to cater for multi-device experience. We’d analysed all the analytics data at our disposal and formulated a content strategy plan which also helped form the foundation of an SEO plan. A few key objectives were to ensure our onsite SEO would pull in keyword searches such as Weddings Peterborough, Conferences Peterborough, Hotel Peterborough to name but a few. With the use of historic heat mapping data, we’d also had an insight into how users were using the previous website which gave our designers a clear objective of how to structure the UI/UX of the website.
We launched a fully responsive website promoting both hotel and restaurant facilities, making the site comprehensive in a way which gave the user as much visual and text content as they needed to research the venue. To up sell services, sections were added to the home page to give clear guidance to specific services, as touch points to service portals. Clear calls to action for booking became a vital tactic to ensure users knew how to book and make it easy to book. And not forgetting getting them an initial boost on search engine optimisation within the Peterborough, Cambridgeshire area.
The result is a fully responsive website that translates the heritage of the brand into a technological era, has a feeling of telling a story in it’s look and feel, is easy to navigate, easy to book services whilst allowing content to be easily updated. We’re really proud of what we’ve developed for such an amazing and historic brand and look forward to supporting them with more digital growth and ensuring they continue to stay on the map.
