9 Benefits of SEO that will grow your business

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is no longer a hurdle for your business that you can dodge. Studies show that 93% of users get to a website through a search engine. You may be thinking, “Why do I need SEO to grow my business?”.

How SEO Helped Our Client

We have a brilliant true story about one of our clients. They reached out to us back in 2016, with a new website that they had invested a lot of money into. They were bringing in a respectable amount of traffic through Social Media, which they dealt with in-house. However, it was not enough to make this investment profitable.

They did their research and came to the conclusion that they needed to get to the top of Google. They were sceptical to invest any more money into their E-commerce, however, we showed them what they could benefit from with Search Engine Optimisation.

There are so many businesses out there who are in the same boat, not sure how they can grow their business further. If that’s you, then you really need to read these 9 reasons why SEO is the right strategy for your business. So, let’s get to it!

SEO increases sales by increasing traffic

A Study undertaken in 2017 showed that 95% of searches on Google stay on Page 1 – this statistic alone, shows just how important being on page 1 is for a business. Getting your site in the top positions for keywords that are likely to convert will improve your click-through rate and increase traffic going through to your site.

The on-page optimisations of page speed and user experience will work hand in hand with the increased levels of traffic through Organic rankings. This should increase your conversion rate because the site will be better for users to navigate around and optimised to increase conversions.

Organic Rankings are Free

Search Engine Optimisation is free… Mostly. This is because you do not have to pay for any clicks on your Organic rankings, whereas with paid advertising, you do. The only cost of SEO is time if you are doing this yourself. However, as SEO is enormous and technical, many people choose to outsource help.

The fact that SEO does not require additional marketing budget to cover click spend, like PPC, means that it gives small and medium-size businesses a great chance to compete with their mammoth competitors that have £1,000,000 or higher marketing budgets.

SEO builds trust and credibility

Google itself is trusted widely across the world, people are using it every day for anything (we wouldn’t have a job without Google!). When a site is positioned near the top of the first page, the business gains trust from the users, because it shows that Google is suggesting your site is one of the best options for what they are looking for in that particular search.

If the user finds what they are looking for on your site, this will build the credibility between your business and the customer.

For example, a site sells Yoga mats and one of their blogs ranks well for the term “Yoga Tips for Beginners”. The user clicked onto the site and was satisfied with the information they received. A few days later, that same user wants to buy a yoga mat. Due to the customer being happy with their experience on that site, they choose to go back to it by typing in the business name. They then go on to purchase a Yoga mat. That sale was completely down to SEO, and it was free!

Organic Rankings are 24/7

Going back to Organic rankings being free to click on, you are able to have your site rank all day and every day. Compare this to Pay-Per-Click (PPC), where you set daily budgets. If the budget was to run out at 6:00 pm, the ad will stop showing in search results for the rest of the day.

SEO increases brand awareness and equity

Organic rankings will help users become more aware of your brand. I’m sure you already know that brand awareness is very important to your website! Of course, you want people to associate the product or service you offer with the name of your site. For example, when you think of a cheap airline, “Ryanair” is likely to be one of the first brands that come to mind.

SEO gives small businesses a chance to grow

As mentioned already, SEO can be free if undertaken yourself. However, even if outsourced, it gives your site a healthy chance of competing with your largest competitors. Most marketing strategies are based upon who has the biggest budget, but that is what makes SEO so unique and profitable.

Our client is in a niche market. However, they are competing with the likes of Amazon and Homebase. They were concerned that they would never be able to even put their foot in the door for their only product when it came to E-commerce. However, we proved to them that, with the right SEO strategy and investment, they could actually be above Amazon and Homebase for their product in Organic search results.

SEO is needed for PPC

As you may know, SEO is not instant. It can take months for anything to happen. Paid advertising is instant, so this can be very attractive for businesses that want a ‘Quick Win’. However, click through rate and landing page content plays a big part in paid ad ranks. If a site is poorly optimised, the cost per click will be higher than if the site was properly optimised.

SEO improves the speed of your site

Google recently released a Page Speed update. You can find out more about it here. But to touch the surface on this update; Google takes into consideration the speed of your site when ranking you in search results. This is because Google recognises that users want snappy results.

As such, a major part of an SEO strategy is to work on and improve the Page Speed of your website. This leads to better rankings, more traffic and higher conversion rates!

Organic Rankings have featured snippets

When a question is asked on Google, there is usually a box that appears in position 0 (above all other results). The box will have what Google believe to be the best answer to the question asked.

If the content on a site is strong enough, optimised correctly and Google believes that it will be the best answer for the user, it will show your site in position 0. This practically takes up the whole screen when searching on a mobile. To find out more about featured snippets, click here.
